How to unlock crafting recipes
Crafting recipes in RuneScape: Dragonwilds turn discoveries into better tools, equipment, and supplies, but gathering ingredients is only the beginning. Your next upgrade may also require a processed material, a skill unlock, or a different workstation. Knowing that chain helps you gather what matters and avoid returning home with ingredients you cannot yet use.
Recipes become available through several routes:
- Discover resources. Pick up unfamiliar wood, ore, plants, hides, and enemy materials as you explore.
- Process ingredients. Leather and Animal Hide are separate materials. Producing the processed version can reveal additional recipes.
- Visit the relevant station. Bring new materials back in your inventory and interact with the appropriate crafting stations.
- Advance skills. Some recipes and processing options depend on skill progression.
- Study Vestiges. These unlock recipes for special equipment and can come from exploration, enemies, or quests.
- Find recipe rewards. Certain equipment recipes are associated with quests, chests, and enemy drops.
Use your Journal to review discovered recipes before setting out. Check both the ingredients and the workstation: having enough materials does not make an item available at every bench.
Gathering tools matter, too. If you find a resource your current tool cannot harvest, mark its location and return after upgrading that tool.

Crafting station recipes and build order
These construction costs are listed in the version 1.0 crafting stations guide. Build stations through Build Mode, then interact with them to access their options.
| Station | Construction materials | Main early use |
|---|---|---|
| Crafting Table | 4 Ash Logs | Basic tools, equipment, and repairs |
| Campfire | 4 Ash Logs, 4 Stone | Cooking food and cleaning water |
| Rune Altar | 12 Stone, 4 Rune Essence | Making unlocked rune types |
| Spinning Wheel | 12 Ash Logs, 4 Flax, 2 Stone | Processing Flax into Coarse Thread |
| Tannery | 12 Ash Logs, 4 Animal Bone, 2 Coarse Thread | Processing Animal Hide into Leather |
| Kiln | 8 Ash Logs, 20 Stone, 6 Clay, 10 Fire Runes | Producing Charcoal |
| Furnace | 24 Stone, 8 Clay, 4 Charcoal, 10 Fire Runes, 8 Vault Shards | Smelting metal bars |
Start with the Crafting Table and Campfire so you can make basic equipment and prepare supplies. The Crafting Table also has a Repair mode, giving it a continuing role after your earliest upgrades.
Next, build the Spinning Wheel before the Tannery. The Tannery needs Coarse Thread for construction, so turning Flax into thread removes that dependency. Keep extra Flax beyond the four pieces needed to build the wheel.
For metalworking, build the Kiln before the Furnace. Produce more than four Charcoal: the Furnace consumes four during construction, and smelting also needs fuel.
The Rune Altar supports this progression, but its available recipes depend on Runecrafting unlocks. Constructing it does not immediately unlock every rune type.
Material recipes and processing chains
The quantities below come from Game8’s April 2025 recipe list. Treat them as early-access recipe references and check the in-game requirements before planning a large batch in version 1.0. The ingredient column does not include a separate fuel allowance.
| Material | Processing station | Listed ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| Ash Plank | Sawmill | 1 Ash Log |
| Bronze Bar | Furnace | 1 Copper Ore, 1 Tin Ore |
| Iron Bar | Furnace | 3 Iron Ore |
| Gold Bar | Furnace | 3 Gold Ore |
| Adhesive | Kiln | 1 Swamp Tar |
| Charcoal | Kiln | 1 Ash Log, Ash Plank, Oak Log, or Oak Plank |
| Clay Vessel, unfired | Pottery Wheel | 1 Clay |
| Clay Vessel | Kiln | 1 unfired Clay Vessel |
| Clay Decoration, unfired | Pottery Wheel | 3 Clay |
| Clay Decoration | Kiln | 1 unfired Clay Decoration |
| Ground Clay | Grindstone | 1 Clay |
| Ground Granite | Grindstone | 1 Granite |
| Ground Stone | Grindstone | 1 Stone |
| Clean Water | Campfire | 2 Dirty Water |
For Charcoal, the listed wood inputs are alternatives; you do not need all four together.
Three production chains are especially useful when planning your workshop:
- Flax to Coarse Thread to Tannery: process Flax at the Spinning Wheel, then use thread to construct the station that makes Leather.
- Wood to Charcoal to metal bars: make Charcoal at the Kiln, then supply the Furnace with ore and fuel.
- Clay to an unfired item to a finished item: shape vessels or decorations at the Pottery Wheel, then fire them in the Kiln.
A Bone Pickaxe can mine the Copper Ore and Tin Ore needed for early Bronze production. Once you have bars, consider your next workstation before spending the entire batch on equipment. Bronze also contributes to workshop expansion, including the Sawmill.

Which bench makes your equipment?
Use the recipe’s workstation requirement to decide where to craft. The Crafting Table handles basic equipment, while specialist benches support further weapon and armor progression.
| Workstation | Equipment or recipe examples |
|---|---|
| Crafting Table | Basic equipment; Wooden Arrows, Stone Arrows, and Fang Arrows |
| Blacksmith’s Bench | Weapons and tools |
| Armour Bench | Armor progression |
| Fletching Bench | Ranged weapons and ammunition, including Bronze, Iron, and Steel Arrows |
The Dragonwilds recipe database groups recipes by workstation, making it useful for checking which bench an item belongs to. Its Crafting Table entries include early clothing and capes, while the Fletching Bench includes longbows, arrows, and bolts.
Older crafting instructions can point to facilities that have changed. The Smithing Anvil was removed in update 0.12.0 on June 23, 2026. Its functions were redistributed among facilities including the Armour Bench, Blacksmith’s Bench, Fletching Bench, and Mystic Forge. The Cooking Pot is also listed as removed by the Dragonwilds Wiki.
Station upgrades need similar care. A Tanner’s Kit upgrades the ordinary Tannery, but it does not give that station the functionality of an Advanced Tannery. If a recipe requires the advanced station, the kit alone will not satisfy that requirement.
Quest rewards and recipe locations
Some equipment recipes require a particular discovery or reward. Gathering their eventual crafting ingredients will not replace obtaining the recipe itself.
The following quest rewards are recorded in Map Genie’s recipe location guide.
| Recipe reward | Quest |
|---|---|
| Masterwork Dragonblight Shield | Dragon Slayer |
| Masterwork Granite Maul | Granite Mauled |
| Imbued Granite Maul Head, Imbued Leather Wrappings, and Ornate Maul Handle | Granite Mauled |
| Masterwork Crystal Bow | Heartstrings |
| Masterwork Staff of Light | Highlighting the Problem |
| Masterwork Dragoncurse Shield | Withering Heights |
Granite Mauled is particularly relevant when planning the Granite Maul because its rewards include component recipes as well as the masterwork recipe. Check the component requirements before setting out to gather materials for the finished weapon.
For exploration recipes, useful places to check include:
- Wooden Training Sword: the chest on the roof of the starting church.
- Leggings of Lightness: the chest at the top of the Temple Woods windmill, northwest of the church.
- Whispering Cape: the chest behind the waterfall near the Garou Druid.
Other recipe discoveries are tied to enemies. Map Genie lists Thane’s Authority with the Garou King and Garou Thanes, Grieving Moon Staff with Garou druids, Hunter’s Stagbow with Garou Hunters, and Skullsplitter with Garou berserkers. Goblin “Swingslash” is associated with Goblin packs.
FAQ
Where can I check runescape dragonwilds crafting recipes in-game?
Open your Journal to review discovered recipes while exploring. It shows the materials and associated crafting station, helping you plan a gathering trip. At the station, select the recipe to inspect its requirements before crafting.
Why is a recipe missing after I collected its material?
You may need to process the material, reach a skill unlock, obtain a special recipe, or visit the correct station. Carry the new material in your inventory and interact with the relevant benches. Finding Animal Hide, for example, does not mean you have produced Leather.
Should I make Coarse Thread at a Loom or Spinning Wheel?
Use the Spinning Wheel for Flax-to-Coarse-Thread processing in the version 1.0 progression described here. Older recipe lists place this process at the Loom, so their workstation assignments should not override the requirements displayed in your game.
What should I build before a Furnace?
Build a Kiln and produce Charcoal. The Furnace requires four Charcoal during construction and additional fuel for smelting. You also need its Stone, Clay, Fire Runes, and Vault Shards, plus suitable ore to begin making bars.
Does unlocking a masterwork recipe provide the finished item?
A recipe unlock gives you the ability to work toward that craft. You still need its ingredients and required facilities. For equipment with crafted components, review those component recipes as well as the final item so your gathering plan covers the entire process.
