Tier 3 mage armor in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the Wizard set: Wizard Hat, Wizard Robes, and Wizard Robe Legs. Each piece has power level 3 and is crafted at the Armour Bench. Acquiring Rough Cloth unlocks Wizard Robes, making cloth production the key step toward upgrading your early mage equipment.
Wizard set crafting costs
The complete Wizard set requires 18 Rough Cloth, 12 Wool Thread, and 7 Wild Anima. Gather these materials before returning to your Armour Bench to craft all three pieces together.
The RuneScape Wiki’s Wizard Robes entry and BisectHosting’s mage guide agree on the robe recipe. BisectHosting also lists the hat and leg recipes used in the totals below.
| Piece | Rough Cloth | Wool Thread | Wild Anima |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wizard Hat | 4 | 2 | 1 |
| Wizard Robes | 8 | 6 | 4 |
| Wizard Robe Legs | 6 | 4 | 2 |
| Complete set | 18 | 12 | 7 |
If you cannot afford everything immediately, the hat has the lowest material cost. Crafting the hat and legs together uses 10 Rough Cloth, 6 Wool Thread, and 3 Wild Anima, providing two Wizard pieces while you gather the remaining robe materials.

How to unlock and gather the materials
Make and collect Rough Cloth first if Wizard Robes are missing from your crafting options. The RuneScape Wiki identifies acquiring this material as the recipe unlock. Raising your Magic skill is separate from discovering this crafting recipe.
The materials follow three production chains:
- Rough Cloth: Process Flax into Coarse Thread at a Spinning Wheel, then turn the thread into Rough Cloth at a Loom.
- Wool Thread: Process Fleece at a Spinning Wheel. The power level 3 crafting walkthrough on YouTube identifies sheep in the Fractured Plains as a source of Fleece.
- Wild Anima: Collect Anima-Infused Bark and process it at a Kiln.
Using the conversion quantities listed in the RuneScape Wiki’s Wizard Robes crafting breakdown, the full set works out to 54 Flax, 12 Fleece, and 28 Anima-Infused Bark. These are ingredient totals; they exclude fuel and the materials needed to construct crafting facilities.
The YouTube walkthrough also shows that building a Loom involves making planks at a Sawmill and placing the Loom under shelter. Prepare that production chain before expecting Flax alone to unlock the finished robes.
For bark, a Steam community crafting explanation describes loose pickups around particular trees in the Fractured Plains, beyond the swamp. It identifies trees with red-and-white bark and stone tablets around their roots. The bark can be collected from the ground without tools.
That community advice recommends avoiding fights while gathering if your equipment is still weak. Collecting the bark and returning to your Kiln gives you a practical route toward the upgrade without requiring you to defeat every nearby enemy.
Defenses and set bonuses
Wizard armor is an early upgrade from Apprentice equipment. Its magic-armor bonuses reward equipping multiple pieces, adding offensive benefits alongside protection.
The RuneScape Wiki and BisectHosting agree on these bonus thresholds:
- One piece: Cuts the delay before stamina regeneration begins by 50%.
- Two pieces: Adds 10% magic attack speed.
- Three pieces: Adds 15% magical critical chance.
The stamina bonus affects the waiting period before recovery starts. It does not describe a 50% increase to the rate at which stamina refills.
For Wizard Robes specifically, the RuneScape Wiki lists 15 melee defense, 17 ranged defense, and 23 magic defense, with a weight of 8.0. This makes magic defense the robe’s strongest defensive stat.
Published robe stats disagree: BisectHosting lists defenses of 8 melee, 6 ranged, and 4 magic for the same item. The figures above follow the dedicated RuneScape Wiki item entry. Check the item panel in your game when comparing an existing piece against a replacement.

Crafting station and version changes
Use the Armour Bench to craft Wizard armor. Older tutorials direct players to a Smithing Anvil, which can make an otherwise correct material walkthrough confusing.
According to the Wizard Robes update history on the RuneScape Wiki, update 0.12.0 on June 23, 2026 moved robe crafting to the Armour Bench when the Smithing Anvil was removed.
If an older video shows the correct Rough Cloth, Wool Thread, and Wild Anima recipe at an anvil, follow the ingredient chain and use the Armour Bench for the final craft.
