Where to Find Your Quest Tracker
In RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the documented early-access way to check current quests is to press M and read the list beside the map. That view helps you find your next objective; a completion checklist helps you remember adventures you have finished or have yet to discover. Community quest logs address that broader tracking need.
Destructoid's April 19, 2025 guide places active quests on the map's left side and says they were absent from the Journal at that time. Treat those controls as instructions for that interface, rather than proof that every later version uses the same layout.
For the map-based tracker, follow these steps:
- Press M to open the map.
- Look through the quest entries on the left.
- Click a secondary quest to activate or deactivate its tracking.
- Check the associated map location and objective marker before traveling.
The same guide describes one active primary quest at a time, without the side-quest toggle. This distinction matters when switching activities: selecting a secondary quest changes what you are following, while the primary narrative remains tied to your story progress.
If you are returning after a break, begin with the displayed objective. A quest's starting location is useful for discovering it, but that location may differ from where its later tasks take place.

Read Quest Markers and Objectives
The early-access interface used different colors for primary and secondary objectives. These markers identify relevant destinations, while the objective text explains what needs to happen there.
| Quest category | Documented marker | Tracking behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Primary quest | Golden exclamation mark | One primary quest was active at a time. |
| Secondary quest | Blue exclamation mark | Selecting the quest as active enabled its marker. |
These colors and selection rules come from Destructoid's interface guide. Its statement that Dragon Slayer was the final available primary quest also belongs to April 2025; the Dragonwilds Wiki lists later adventures.
BisectHosting's April 2026 quest guide describes quest steps appearing along the side of the screen during play. Read that instruction before gathering materials or revisiting an NPC. A quest can involve several different tasks, so its title alone is not enough to identify your next action.
For example, BisectHosting describes Dragon Slayer progressing through investigation, equipment preparation, collecting ingredients, crafting the Challenge Horn, and confronting Velgar. A location associated with an earlier stage does not necessarily resolve your current objective.
When a secondary marker seems missing, first check whether that quest is selected in the map interface. Then compare your current instruction with the task you are attempting.
Find Your Next Primary Quest
Primary quests advance the central story and provide access to some regions. The Dragonwilds Wiki's quest overview describes successive quests within a primary narrative as requiring the preceding quest. If a later adventure will not start, checking your earlier story progress is a useful first step.
The opening sequence introduces several recurring characters. First Steps begins automatically with a new character. Doric starts Getting Started outside the temple, Vannaka provides Ratcatcher near the old windmill, and Zanik starts Rune Mysteries along the route toward Bramblemead Valley.
For later progression, these starting points provide useful checkpoints:
| Quest | Starting point | Progression detail |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon Slayer | Wise Old Man in Bramblemead Village | BisectHosting lists Rune Mysteries as its prerequisite. |
| Withering Heights | Wise Old Man near Ashien's Watch | Begins after completing Dragon Slayer. |
| Black Knight's Fortress | Death in the Forgotten Temple | The wiki associates this primary quest with Dowdun Reach. |
| Icthlarin's Little Helper | Door leading to the Umbral Sands | The wiki lists interacting with the door as its starting action. |
The locations above follow the wiki, while the first two prerequisite details are also described in BisectHosting's walkthrough.
Distinguish a quest's starting contact from its completion condition. For Dragon Slayer, BisectHosting includes bringing Velgar's head back to the Wise Old Man after the fight. For Withering Heights, its walkthrough ends with delivering Imaru's head to Death. When checking whether you have finished a storyline, include its final return or hand-in step in your review.
For a personal checklist, record both the quest name and your next unfinished action. That makes returning to a long primary quest easier than relying on a simple “started” label.

Locate Secondary Quests You May Have Missed
Secondary quests tell smaller stories across Ashenfall and can introduce mechanics or award useful recipes. Their starting triggers vary: some require conversation, while others begin through environmental objects.
The Dragonwilds Wiki and IGN's side-quest checklist agree on the following discovery points:
| Quest | Area to search | Starting contact or object |
|---|---|---|
| Restless Ghosts | Bramblemead Village | Crumbling well |
| Highlighting the Problem | Runecrafting Guild, Bramblemead Valley | Wizard statue |
| Heartstrings | Hill in the Fractured Plains | Memorial |
| Granite Mauled | Fractured Plains | Doric |
| Dog Days | Stormtouched Highlands | Vannaka |
Use these as discovery leads rather than a complete quest list. Checking only named NPCs can leave gaps because wells, statues, and memorials also begin adventures.
The two references disagree about Goblin Diplomacy. IGN's April 2025 checklist names a Reliquary as the quest giver, while the Dragonwilds Wiki lists Zanik in Bramblemead Valley. That difference is unresolved here; use your in-game objective and interactions to determine the relevant trigger for your version.
Quest counts also need dates attached. IGN listed seven side quests in April 2025. The wiki includes additional names, such as Cook's Assistant, Animal Magnetism, and The Great Body Robbery, so seven should not be treated as a current total.
For an example of detailed step tracking, Map Genie's secondary-quest guide describes Animal Magnetism as starting with Manktongue. Its tasks include reading the nearby Advert-Inna-Bottle, discussing it, and gathering an undead chicken, a magnetised iron bar, and undead twigs. The listed rewards include Ava's Accumulator and its recipe.
That example shows why a useful log records individual tasks: remembering the quest name does not tell you which ingredient or conversation remains unfinished.
Track Unstarted and Completed Quests
Choose a tracking tool according to the question you need answered. Finding today's destination, discovering an untouched quest, and auditing an entire character's progress require different information.
| Tracking option | What it offers | How to use the information |
|---|---|---|
| Map quest tracker | Current quest entries and associated objectives in the documented early-access interface | Choose an activity and identify its next destination. |
| Community Quest Log mod | An October 2026 community demonstration describes showing unstarted quests and quest steps | Review the particular mod's description for its features and setup. |
| Acurious's completionist log | A Google Sheets checklist with manually entered quest progress | Maintain a personal record and review progress by region. |
Nexus Mods hosts a listing titled Quest Log - Every Quest and Every Step. Separately, Duncan Rochelle's October 29, 2026 community post describes a Quest Log mod displaying quests that have not been started and their steps. The post and listing establish community interest in expanded tracking, but should not be treated as documentation of built-in game features.
Acurious's completionist-log demonstration explains a spreadsheet organized around regions and quest categories. Users create their own copy, then manually change quest statuses from the default unstarted state as they complete adventures.
The creator explicitly describes automatic reading of game files as unavailable in the demonstrated version. Its progress summary therefore depends on what you enter.
For a manageable tracking routine:
- Update your checklist after completing the final quest conversation or hand-in.
- Record the next objective before leaving a long quest unfinished.
- Review one region at a time when searching for missing adventures.
- Keep collection goals separate from quest completion, even when one spreadsheet tracks both.
FAQ
How do I open the runescape dragonwilds quest log?
For the interface documented in April 2025, press M to open the map and view current quests on the left. Select a secondary quest to toggle its tracking. Those instructions describe the early-access map tracker; a community mod may have its own controls.
Does the Journal contain a complete quest history?
Destructoid's April 2025 guide says current quests were on the map rather than in the Journal. It does not establish a complete finished-quest archive. Acurious's spreadsheet offers a separate, manually maintained completion record.
Why is my secondary quest missing a blue marker?
In the documented map interface, a secondary quest must be active for its marker to appear. Check its selection and read the current objective before traveling to an earlier quest location.
Are there only seven side quests?
Seven is the count in IGN's April 2025 checklist. The Dragonwilds Wiki lists additional secondary quests, so that older count is not a reliable total for later versions.
Will the completionist spreadsheet update automatically?
The version demonstrated by Acurious requires manual updates. You make a personal copy and enter your progress yourself; automatic import from game files was not available in that demonstration.
